Stop what you’re doing and SLEEP. If at all possible, absolutely stop what you’re doing, take a day off, and sleep as much as you can. A cold or virus of any kind is much more likely to attack and settle in when our bodies are under-slept and over-stressed. And let’s face it, that’s most of us right? And if you’re like me, the thought of slowing down to sleep or heaven forbid take a sick day, is excruciating and we cry out “what!? How will anything ever get done!?” But trust me my friend. The world will NOT fall apart around you. And your body will thank you. If you’re serious about kicking this virus in the pants fast, making a conscious effort to get some extra sleep at the onset of your symptoms is your best bet.
Warm, whole foods like steamed veggies and protein, while staying away from processed carbs and baked goods, this is gonna be your best plan for what to eat when you feel cold symptoms coming on. I could say “don’t eat sugar and starches when you’re sick”, and if you can swing it, that’s stellar. But if I just simply recommend to stick to warm soups, homemade broths, steamed veggies and warm lean proteins, you’ll be headed in the right direction and it sounds a lot nicer to say what you should be doing than what you shouldn’t, doesn’t it? Positive psychology, folks.
